Immunology

Immunology is a branch of biology that studies the immune system and its role in disease, and it does not generally involve surgical intervention.

However, some surgical procedures may be performed to treat conditions that affect the immune system, such as removal of a diseased organ (e.g. spleen) that is involved in immune function, or bone marrow transplant to replace damaged or diseased bone marrow.

In summary, while there is no specific surgical specialty referred to as “immunology surgery,” some surgical procedures may be performed to treat conditions that affect the immune system. These procedures are usually performed by specialists in the relevant surgical specialty (e.g. splenectomy is performed by a general or abdominal surgeon).
