Miss Alexandra Cope's specialities:

Miss Alexandra Cope completed her undergraduate training at St. Mary’s Hospital Paddington (Imperial College) in 2001 and started her surgical career at the Royal Surrey County Hospital Guildford on their Basic Surgical Rotation passing her MRCS in 2004.

Miss Cope has worked in clinical NHS positions as well as academic University posts and has a Masters in Surgical Education. She has been an NIHR funded Academic Clinical Lecturer at the University of Leeds. Miss Cope has a PhD from Imperial College London and a Post graduate Diploma in Coloproctology from the University of East Anglia.

Miss Cope served a full term as an elected member of the Association of Coloproctologists of Great Britain and Ireland on the Education and Training Committee and has hosted a number of Webinars on coloproctology.

Miss Cope is a full Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. She has held an RCS Research Fellowship and was awarded the RCS Harry Morton travelling Fellowship allowing her to work at several prestigious medical education research centres in Canada including University of Toronto, University of Ottawa, Western University and McGill. She has set up and run a simulation program for Core Surgical Trainees in the Oxford Deanery and has appeared on a number of radio and television programs relating to medical simulation.

Miss Cope was a Royal College of Surgeons of England Lady Estelle Wolfson Emerging Leadership Fellow. She has undertaken a national Ethicon Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship at Newcastle University Teaching Hospitals. Her research is focussed upon surgical decision making and education. She is a current BDRF grant holder on a project investigating surgeons decisions regarding avoiding or defunctioning a rectal anastomosis and is a Principal Investigator for an NIHR research study. Her clinical interests are in minimal access colorectal cancer surgery as well as benign colonic and rectal conditions.

Miss Cope was appointed as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust in 2016. Miss Cope is the Training Program Director for Higher Surgical Trainees in General Surgery for Thames Valley over-seeing the training of senior residents at Oxford University Hospitals, Buckinghamshire NHS Trust, Milton Keynes NHS Trust, Royal Berkshire NHS Trust and Frimley Health. She is a Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Miss Cope is a fully qualified open, laparoscopic and robotic surgeon using the Da Vinci XI system. She sees outpatients and provides diagnostics and inpatient care through the Parkside Suite at Frimley Park Hospital, Heatherwood Hospital and Wexham Park Hospital. She provides diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and proctoscopy. She is JAG accredited in colonoscopy and an accredited colonoscopy trainer.

Miss Cope’s specific interests are General Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Hernia repair surgery, Haemorrhoids, Colonoscopy and Bowel cancer.
