Mr. Nicholas Ward is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in foot and ankle surgery. Based at Frimley Park Hospital since 2010, he brings a wealth of expertise from both his military service and his advanced surgical training. Mr. Ward pursued his medical degree at Leeds Medical School, graduating in 1996. His early career saw him join the British Army, where he served as a military doctor, providing care to soldiers and their families in Germany with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.
Throughout his military career, Mr. Ward undertook numerous deployments as an orthopaedic surgeon, serving in challenging environments across Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and South Sudan under the United Nations. His extensive experience in trauma and orthopaedic care in these settings honed his surgical skills and deepened his understanding of complex orthopaedic injuries. In 2022, Mr. Ward left the military to focus on his work within the NHS and private practice.
Mr. Ward completed his basic surgical training at Frimley Park Hospital before advancing to higher specialist orthopaedic training in the Wessex and Oxford regions. He further refined his expertise through specialist foot and ankle fellowships at the prestigious Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford and in Portsmouth. He has lectured on foot and ankle surgery at both national and international conferences. He has also contributed to international journals, publishing papers on foot and ankle surgery as well as trauma care.
In his clinical practice, Mr. Ward covers the full spectrum of foot and ankle surgery, with particular interest in arthroscopic surgery, forefoot surgery, heel pain, arthritis of the foot and ankle, sports injuries, and cartilage injuries within the ankle joint. His comprehensive approach ensures patients receive personalised care tailored to their specific conditions.
In addition to his surgical duties, Mr. Ward holds the position of Trauma Lead for the orthopaedic department at his NHS Trust, overseeing the management of complex trauma cases. He is an active member of several professional societies, including the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (BOFAS), the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), and the Combined Services Orthopaedic Society (CSOS).
